It was founded in 1958 and was formerly known as Jiangxi Geological College (1958~1965, undergraduate), Jiangxi Geological School (1973~1979), Ganzhou Geological School (1979~1994), and Southern Industrial School (1994~2002). It has been rated as a national key vocational school twice. In 2002, it was upgraded to Higher Vocational and Technical College, under the jurisdiction of the Jiangxi Provincial Department of Land and Resources. It is a full-time general higher education institution with a focus on engineering and a coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as engineering, economics, management, and humanities.
