Site Description: The Fourth Military Medical University of the People's Liberation Army of China is a national key university that trains high-level and middle-level medical professionals for the military. The school was formed in 1954 by the merger of the former Fourth Military Medical University and the former Fifth Military Medical University. The predecessor of the former Fourth Military Medical University was the Health School of the Northwest Military Region of the Eighth Route Army established in 1941, while the predecessor of the former Fifth Military Medical University was the National Central University School of Medicine established in 1935. The school was designated as one of the first batch of key universities in China in 1959, entered the ranks of key military construction universities in 1995, and became one of the first batch of key construction universities in the "211 Project" of the country in 1997. The school headquarters is located in the ancient city of Xi'an, covering an area of 2840 acres.
