Hubei Second Normal University is a provincial-level regular undergraduate institution with teacher education as its characteristic, covering seven disciplines including humanities, science, education, economics, management, engineering, and law. It is one of the important bases for teacher education in Hubei. The predecessor of the school began in 1931 with the establishment of Hubei Provincial Education College. From 1944 to 1979, it was renamed as National Hubei Normal University, Hubei Provincial Education College, Hubei Normal College, and Hubei Provincial Teacher Training College. In May 1979, it was renamed as Hubei Provincial Institute of Education, and in 1990, it was renamed as Hubei Institute of Education. In April 2003, Hubei Provincial Industrial School was merged as a whole. In March 2007, with the approval of the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Hubei Province, the school was restructured and renamed as Hubei Second Normal University.
