Excessive Sweating Due to Qi Deficiency: Huangqi, the First Herb for Qi Replenishment, Helps You Sleep Better with Less Sweating!
Hello everyone, I'm Dr. Peng! While sweating is generally considered a way for the body to detoxify, it's not a good sign if you sweat profusely with just a little activity! In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), sweating requires the participation of Yang Qi. If you sweat excessively, it can lead to Yang Qi depletion. With insufficient Yang Qi, your body can't effectively control sweat secretion, resulting in even more sweating. Today, we'll discuss the abnormal sweating caused by Yang Qi deficiency.
In TCM theory, Yang Qi, also known as Zheng Qi, is the source of vitality in the body. It has the functions of boosting spirit, warming the body, and resisting external pathogens. Therefore, people with Yang Qi deficiency often experience cold hands and feet, feeling cold, pale lips, low energy, fatigue, chest tightness and shortness of breath, weak voice, clear and long urine, and so on. Severe cases may even lead to intolerance to cold food, diarrhea, weakened immunity, and frequent colds. Yang Qi deficiency can also cause poor sleep and insomnia.
For this condition, I recommend a herbal medicine: Huangqi (Astragalus membranaceus). Huangqi has the effects of replenishing vital energy, boosting Yang Qi, strengthening the body surface, and reducing sweating. It is highly effective in regulating sweating caused by Yang Qi deficiency.
However, if your Yang Qi deficiency is severe, Huangqi alone may not be sufficient. In such cases, we can add Guizhi (Cinnamon twig). This herb can replenish heart Yang, as sweat represents the heart fluid. Excessive sweating is most damaging to heart Yang. By adding Guizhi, we can enhance the effect of replenishing Yang Qi, balancing Yin and Yang to achieve the goal of stabilizing sweat and reducing sweating.
Furthermore, if you experience heart palpitations, heart racing, insomnia, excessive sweating, cold intolerance, and other symptoms of Yang Qi deficiency in various organs, such as kidney Yang deficiency leading to cold pain in the waist and knees, weakness, frequent urination, and decreased libido, or spleen Yang deficiency causing abdominal distension and pain, loss of appetite, etc., you can add Zhi Gancao (Glycyrrhiza uralensis) to the formula. It can replenish vital energy and enhance the ability to retain sweat.
